Product Care

Proper care helps preserve the appearance, performance, and service life of your Layerform product. Because materials and components vary by product, always follow any product-specific instructions included with your order or shown on the product page.

General Cleaning

For routine cleaning:

  • Remove loose dust with a soft, dry cloth or soft-bristled brush.
  • Wipe the surface with a soft cloth lightly dampened with water.
  • When needed, use a small amount of mild dish soap diluted in water.
  • Dry the product thoroughly with a clean, soft cloth.
  • Clean textured surfaces gently rather than scrubbing aggressively.

Do not use abrasive pads, scouring powders, solvents, acetone, paint thinner, or harsh chemical cleaners. These products may discolor, soften, scratch, cloud, or otherwise damage the surface.

Do not immerse a product in water unless its product page specifically states that it is waterproof or washable by immersion.

PLA Products

PLA is commonly used for indoor décor, display pieces, organizers, clocks, shades, and other products that are not expected to experience high temperatures or prolonged outdoor exposure.

To care for PLA products:

  • Keep them indoors unless the product is specifically listed for outdoor use.
  • Keep them away from heaters, fireplaces, stovetops, candles, hot cookware, and other concentrated heat sources.
  • Do not leave them inside a parked vehicle during warm weather.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to strong direct sunlight.
  • Clean with a soft, lightly dampened cloth.
  • Do not place them in a dishwasher, microwave, conventional oven, or clothes dryer.

If a PLA product begins to warp, soften, or lose its shape, discontinue use and contact Layerform for assistance.

PETG Products

PETG is used for products that benefit from greater toughness, moisture resistance, or temperature tolerance than standard PLA. However, PETG products are not automatically heatproof, dishwasher-safe, weatherproof, or approved for food contact.

To care for PETG products:

  • Clean with mild soap, water, and a soft cloth.
  • Dry thoroughly after cleaning.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat.
  • Do not place in a dishwasher unless the product page specifically identifies the product as dishwasher-safe.
  • Do not expose the product to boiling water, open flame, hot cookware, or direct contact with heating elements.
  • For outdoor products, inspect periodically for fading, deformation, cracking, or loosening hardware.

Always follow the care limitations listed for the specific product.

Lighting Products

Before cleaning or servicing a lighting product:

  1. Turn the product off.
  2. Disconnect it from its power source.
  3. Allow the light source and surrounding components to cool completely.
  4. Remove batteries when applicable.

Use a dry or lightly dampened cloth on the printed enclosure. Do not spray cleaner directly onto the product. Apply cleaner to the cloth first.

Do not allow water or cleaning solution to enter:

  • USB ports
  • Power connectors
  • Switches
  • Control modules
  • Battery compartments
  • LED assemblies
  • Clock movements
  • Wire openings

Do not operate a lighting product with damaged wiring, exposed conductors, a loose connector, unusual heat, a burning odor, flickering, or visible electrical damage. Disconnect it immediately and contact Layerform.

Use only the power supply, light kit, bulb, battery type, or electrical component specified for the product.

Outdoor Products

Only products specifically identified as suitable for outdoor use should be placed outdoors.

Outdoor exposure may gradually affect color, surface finish, strength, fit, and hardware. To extend product life:

  • Place the product in a sheltered location when practical.
  • Avoid areas where water can collect inside the product.
  • Bring the product indoors during severe weather, freezing conditions, or extreme heat unless it is specifically designed for those conditions.
  • Clean off dirt, plant residue, salt, fertilizer, and standing water.
  • Inspect mounting points, fasteners, and connections regularly.
  • Confirm that drainage openings remain clear.
  • Do not allow outdoor lighting components or electrical connections to become wet unless they are expressly rated for that environment.

Fading or gradual weathering may occur over time and does not necessarily indicate a manufacturing defect.

Heat Exposure

Layerform products should be kept away from excessive heat unless their product page states otherwise.

Potential heat sources include:

  • Parked vehicles
  • Radiators and space heaters
  • Fireplaces
  • Stovetops and ovens
  • Grills
  • Candles and open flames
  • Hot cookware
  • High-output bulbs
  • Heat vents
  • Prolonged direct sunlight behind glass

Heat can cause a product to soften, warp, sag, shrink, loosen, or lose dimensional accuracy. The temperature tolerance of a completed product depends on its material, geometry, load, color, and environment.

Do not use a product to hold hot objects or near a heat source unless that use is specifically stated in the listing.

Dishwasher and Food-Contact Warnings

Unless the product page explicitly states otherwise:

  • Layerform products are not dishwasher-safe.
  • Layerform products are not microwave-safe.
  • Layerform products are not oven-safe.
  • Layerform products are not intended for direct contact with food.
  • Layerform products should not be used to prepare, serve, store, or contain food or beverages.
  • Layerform products should not be used with boiling liquids or hot cookware.

A material being described by its manufacturer as food-contact suitable does not automatically mean every finished product made from that material is appropriate for every food-contact application.

Products intended to organize packaged food, utensils, sealed containers, or kitchen tools should be used only as described on the product page.

Electrical-Component Care

Electrical components should be kept dry, clean, ventilated, and free from physical damage.

  • Disconnect power before cleaning, adjusting, disassembling, or replacing components.
  • Never pull a plug by the wire.
  • Do not pinch, sharply bend, cut, modify, or conceal cords where heat may build up.
  • Keep ventilation openings clear.
  • Do not operate electrical products near sinks, bathtubs, pools, or standing water unless specifically rated for that environment.
  • Do not use an electrical product after it has become wet.
  • Do not replace components with higher-powered parts unless Layerform has confirmed compatibility.
  • Keep electrical products out of reach of children when the product is not designed as a toy.

Contact Layerform before attempting a repair when the issue involves wiring, power supplies, LED assemblies, switches, controllers, or other electrical components.

Storage

When storing a Layerform product:

  • Clean and dry it first.
  • Store it in a cool, dry location.
  • Avoid attics, parked vehicles, sheds, or other areas that experience extreme heat.
  • Keep heavy objects from resting on thin walls, shades, decorative features, or snap-fit components.
  • Support large products evenly so they do not deform during long-term storage.
  • Remove batteries from products that will not be used for an extended period.
  • Coil cables loosely rather than wrapping them tightly around the product.
  • Store removable hardware and small components together in a labeled bag.
  • Protect finished surfaces from rubbing against rough materials.

Keep the original packaging when practical, especially for lighting products, clocks, seasonal items, and fragile décor.

Replacement Parts

Layerform designs many products to be serviceable rather than disposable. Replacement components may be available for lost, damaged, or worn parts.

To request a replacement part, contact Layerform and include:

  • Your name
  • Order number
  • Product name
  • Approximate purchase date
  • A description of the part needed
  • Clear photographs of the product and damaged or missing component
  • The product color and configuration

Replacement availability depends on the product, its age, current materials, design revisions, licensing limitations, and whether the component remains in production.

Some components may be replaced under warranty. Damage caused by misuse, modification, accidents, normal wear, improper cleaning, excessive heat, or use outside the product’s intended purpose may require a paid replacement.

Do not discard the complete product until Layerform has reviewed the issue. In many cases, replacing one component may restore the product without replacing the full assembly.
