Custom Orders

Layerform welcomes opportunities to create products that better fit a particular space, purpose, gift, business, or application.

Custom work may include changes to an existing Layerform product or the development of a new product. Because every request has different design, engineering, material, testing, and production requirements, custom work is reviewed and quoted individually.

Submitting a request does not guarantee that Layerform will accept the project.

Types of Customization

Depending on the product, available customization may include:

  • Color
  • Size
  • Text
  • Names or dates
  • Logos
  • Images
  • Product configuration
  • Mounting method
  • Hardware
  • Lighting
  • Packaging
  • Quantity
  • Commercial branding
  • Functional modifications
  • Development of a new product

Not every product can be safely or effectively modified. Layerform may decline a request when a proposed change could compromise strength, stability, safety, usability, manufacturability, licensing requirements, or the Layerform quality standard.

How to Request Custom Work

To request a custom order, provide as much of the following information as possible:

  • The product or type of product
  • Intended use
  • Required dimensions
  • Preferred color
  • Quantity
  • Desired material
  • Target completion date
  • Installation or mounting requirements
  • Reference photographs
  • Logos, artwork, or text
  • Electrical or lighting requirements
  • Budget range
  • Shipping destination
  • Any limitations or non-negotiable requirements

Accurate information helps us determine whether the project is practical and prepare an appropriate estimate.

Quotes and Proposals

After reviewing the request, Layerform may provide:

  • A preliminary estimate
  • A fixed-price quote
  • A paid design proposal
  • A prototype plan
  • A production estimate
  • A request for additional information
  • A recommendation for a standard product instead

A quote may include:

  • Design and engineering fees
  • Prototype costs
  • Materials
  • Hardware
  • Electrical components
  • Manufacturing
  • Finishing
  • Packaging
  • Shipping
  • Taxes
  • Revision allowances
  • Estimated production time

Unless otherwise stated, quotes are valid for 30 days and may change if the scope, quantity, materials, timeline, or customer requirements change.

Design and Engineering Fees

Custom work may require a non-refundable design or engineering fee.

This fee compensates Layerform for work such as:

  • Product research
  • Measurements
  • CAD development
  • Artwork preparation
  • File cleanup
  • Engineering
  • Prototyping
  • Test fitting
  • Material evaluation
  • Sourcing
  • Production planning
  • Customer revisions

Payment for design work does not automatically transfer ownership of Layerform’s design files, CAD models, manufacturing files, methods, templates, or intellectual property.

Any transfer of intellectual-property rights must be stated in a separate written agreement.

Deposits and Payment

Layerform may require:

  • Full payment before work begins
  • A design fee before concept development
  • A deposit before purchasing materials
  • A production deposit after approval
  • Final payment before shipment

The required payment schedule will be included in the quote.

Work will not begin until the required payment, measurements, files, and approvals have been received.

Proofs and Customer Approval

When appropriate, Layerform may provide a digital proof, rendering, drawing, dimension sheet, sample, or prototype for approval.

The customer is responsible for reviewing:

  • Spelling
  • Names
  • Dates
  • Dimensions
  • Orientation
  • Colors
  • Artwork
  • Placement
  • Quantity
  • Product configuration
  • Compatibility
  • Shipping information

Approval authorizes Layerform to proceed based on the information shown.

Changes requested after approval may require:

  • Additional design fees
  • Additional material costs
  • A revised completion date
  • A new prototype
  • Cancellation and restart of production

Layerform is not responsible for an error that was clearly shown in and approved through the final proof.

Revisions

The number of included revisions will be stated in the quote or proposal.

A revision is a reasonable adjustment to the approved project scope. A request that substantially changes the dimensions, function, style, material, quantity, or intended use may be treated as a new project.

Additional revisions may be billed at the current design rate.

Customer-Supplied Measurements

When a custom product depends on customer-supplied dimensions, the customer is responsible for verifying that those dimensions are complete and accurate.

Layerform may request:

  • Multiple measurements
  • Photographs with a ruler
  • A tracing
  • A physical sample
  • A manufacturer’s specification sheet
  • A test coupon
  • Confirmation of tolerances

Layerform is not responsible for fit problems caused by incorrect, incomplete, or estimated customer measurements.

When practical, a test coupon or fit sample may be recommended before full production.

Customer-Supplied Images and Artwork

Customers must have the legal right to use any image, logo, name, character, trademark, photograph, or artwork submitted for a custom order.

By submitting content, the customer confirms that:

  • They own the content or have permission to use it
  • Layerform is authorized to reproduce it for the requested order
  • The content does not violate another party’s rights
  • The content is not unlawful, deceptive, hateful, threatening, or otherwise prohibited

Layerform may refuse any content or project at its discretion.

The customer is responsible for the quality of submitted files. Low-resolution, blurry, compressed, dark, cropped, or poorly exposed images may produce a lower-quality result.

Intellectual Property and Design Ownership

Unless a written agreement states otherwise:

  • Layerform retains ownership of its CAD files, design files, drawings, prototypes, manufacturing methods, templates, and product architecture.
  • Payment purchases the finished product and the agreed services—not the underlying design or production files.
  • Layerform may reuse general engineering methods, non-confidential features, manufacturing techniques, and knowledge developed during the project.
  • The customer retains ownership of their original logos, photographs, trademarks, and customer-supplied artwork.

Exclusive ownership, licensing, confidentiality, or transfer of production files must be negotiated separately and may require additional fees.

Prototypes

A prototype is a development sample and may differ from the final production product.

Prototype differences may include:

  • Color
  • Material
  • finish
  • Hardware
  • Internal structure
  • Surface quality
  • Assembly method
  • Packaging

Prototype charges are generally non-refundable because they cover actual design, material, machine, and labor costs.

Approval of a prototype authorizes production based on the approved sample and any documented changes.

Production Time

Production begins after all required approvals and payments are received.

Estimated production time may be affected by:

  • Project complexity
  • Quantity
  • Material availability
  • Hardware availability
  • Prototype testing
  • Design revisions
  • Equipment availability
  • Quality-control results
  • Customer response time
  • Shipping delays
  • Events outside Layerform’s reasonable control

Completion dates are estimates unless Layerform agrees to a guaranteed deadline in writing.

Do not schedule installation, events, travel, or other dependent work until the finished order has been received and inspected.

Manufacturing Characteristics

Custom products may display characteristics associated with their materials and production processes, including:

  • Layer lines
  • Seams
  • Minor texture variations
  • Small color differences
  • Slight differences between production batches
  • Normal dimensional tolerances
  • Minor differences between a rendering and the physical product

These characteristics are not defects unless they materially affect the approved appearance, fit, or function.

Changes and Cancellations

Final-sale products and designated final-sale variants are not eligible for ordinary cancellation requests, including before design, production, or fulfillment. Final-sale exclusions cover all variants of the Custom 4-Photo Lithophane Lantern and Custom Illuminated Lithophane Photo Frame; both Night Light variants (Dog Design and Custom Photo); Custom Photo Clock Face and Custom Photo Illuminated Modular Clock; the six Personalized Sports Illuminated Modular Clocks; and only the designated final-sale variants of Interchangeable Clock Faces.

For eligible items that are not final sale, cancellation requests are available until the item is fulfilled. Submit an available request from your customer account, or contact support@layerformcollective.com. We review each request and confirm the outcome.

Contact us promptly about changes to a custom project. Design revisions may require a new quote, additional work, or a revised completion date. Separately quoted design, engineering, prototype, or commercial projects remain subject to their disclosed written terms.

Returns

Products and variants designated final sale are not eligible for ordinary return or cancellation requests. Eligible items can be requested for return within 14 calendar days of delivery of that item, with no extension for weekends or holidays. You arrange and pay for return shipping; there is no restocking fee. Cancellation requests for eligible items are available until fulfillment. Final-sale exclusions cover all variants of the Custom 4-Photo Lithophane Lantern and Custom Illuminated Lithophane Photo Frame; both Night Light variants (Dog Design and Custom Photo); Custom Photo Clock Face and Custom Photo Illuminated Modular Clock; the six Personalized Sports Illuminated Modular Clocks; and only the designated final-sale variants of Interchangeable Clock Faces.

This does not limit coverage for verified manufacturing defects, shipping damage, missing components, material differences from the approved order, or a Layerform production error. Our separate limited warranty continues to apply.

A change in preference, incorrect customer-provided information, or an approved design decision is not considered a defect.

Commercial and Bulk Orders

Commercial, wholesale, event, and bulk orders may require:

  • A production agreement
  • Quantity-based pricing
  • Extended lead times
  • Sample approval
  • Custom packaging
  • Freight shipping
  • Payment milestones
  • A separate warranty
  • Intellectual-property documentation
  • Resale terms

Contact Layerform before ordering large quantities through the standard website checkout.

Confidentiality

Layerform will handle non-public customer information with reasonable care.

Projects requiring formal confidentiality, nondisclosure terms, exclusivity, or restricted portfolio use must be identified before information is shared and may require a written agreement.

Unless otherwise agreed, Layerform may photograph completed work for internal records, quality documentation, and portfolio use, provided confidential customer information is not disclosed.
