Today, additive manufacturing is our primary means of production. It gives us the ability to develop products rapidly, refine them through real-world testing, manufacture in small batches, offer thoughtful variations, and create forms that may be difficult or impractical through traditional manufacturing.
As products and demand evolve, Layerform may use additional manufacturing methods when they provide a better result.
Manufacturing-Agnostic by Design
Layerform’s identity is tied to the products we create—not the machines used to create them.
Depending on the product, quantity, material, and application, manufacturing may include:

Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing builds a product progressively rather than cutting it from a larger block or forming it inside a traditional production mold.
This approach allows Layerform to:
- Test ideas quickly
- Refine fit and function through repeated prototypes
- Produce small batches
- Reduce the need for large initial tooling investments
- Offer product variations
- Consolidate multiple components
- Create internal channels and complex geometry
- Produce replacement components
- Improve products without waiting for a new production tool
- Manufacture closer to actual demand
Additive manufacturing is not used merely because a product can be printed. It is used when it is an appropriate production method for that product and stage of development.
Surface Characteristics
Additively manufactured products may display visible characteristics of the process, including:
- Layer lines
- Build seams
- Start and stop points
- Subtle texture variation
- Minor differences in sheen
- Slight color variation
- Small differences between production runs
- Evidence of supports or finishing in concealed areas
- Normal dimensional tolerances
Layerform carefully controls orientation, settings, material, equipment condition, assembly, and inspection to produce a professional result.
These characteristics are not automatically defects. However, a visible flaw that materially affects the intended appearance, fit, durability, or function should not pass Layerform’s quality inspection.
Materials Are Selected by Purpose
Layerform does not select materials solely because they are inexpensive or convenient to print.
Material selection may consider:

The material used for each product will be identified on the product page whenever it is relevant to use, care, safety, or performance.
PLA
PLA may be used for products such as:
- Indoor décor

- Light shades

- Decorative components
- Products that are not exposed to high heat
PLA can provide excellent detail, clean surfaces, low warping, and a wide selection of finishes.
However, PLA is generally not selected for applications involving:
- High heat
- Parked vehicles
- Hot cookware
- Open flame
- Long-term outdoor exposure
- High-impact loading
- Continuous mechanical stress
Product-specific instructions take precedence over general material information.
PETG
PETG may be selected when a product benefits from:
- Greater toughness
- Improved impact resistance
- Better moisture resistance
- More flexibility than standard PLA
- Higher temperature tolerance
- Functional snap features
- Workshop or utility use
- Certain outdoor or semi-outdoor applications
PETG is not automatically:
- Heatproof
- Dishwasher-safe
- Weatherproof
- UV-proof
- Food-safe
- Suitable for every outdoor environment
Suitability depends on the exact material, geometry, load, environment, manufacturing method, and intended use.
Specialty Materials
Certain products may use specialty polymers or composites selected for a specific performance requirement.
These may include:
- Translucent materials
- Flexible materials
- UV-resistant materials
- Heat-resistant materials
- Fiber-reinforced polymers
- Engineering plastics
- Wood-filled materials
- Metallic-effect materials

A specialty material will only be described as meeting a particular standard when the product and material documentation support that claim.

Not every product includes every installation fastener. Mounting hardware is included only when stated on the product page because wall type, mounting surface, load, and local construction can vary.
Electrical Components
Layerform lighting, clocks, illuminated frames, and other powered products may include third-party electrical components.
These may include:
- LED strips
- LED pucks
- Clock movements
- USB cables
- Power supplies
- Controllers
- Switches
- Battery holders
- Connectors
- Wiring
- Bulbs
- Light kits
The product page will identify what is included and what the customer must provide.
Use only the voltage, power source, light source, battery, or component specified for the product. Substituting a higher-powered or incompatible component may cause heat, damage, electrical failure, or fire risk.
Third-party components may carry additional manufacturer markings, instructions, certifications, or warranties.
Color and Batch Variation
Colors shown online may vary slightly due to:
- Screen calibration
- Display brightness
- Photography lighting
- Material batch
- Surface finish
- Manufacturing method
- Part orientation
- Natural differences between production runs
When multiple visible parts are manufactured for the same order, Layerform will make reasonable efforts to maintain visual consistency.
A future replacement component may not be an exact color match if the original material is discontinued or a new batch differs slightly.
Product Revisions
Layerform continuously improves its products.
A product may be revised to improve:

A generic material name such as PLA or PETG does not automatically make every finished product suitable for direct food contact.
Food-contact suitability may depend on:

We will use another process when it delivers a better result.
We will not compromise a product merely to keep it tied to a particular machine or method.
